PSG – THE PERENNIAL CHOKERS

The shock result of the Champions League so far happened on Wednesday as PSG were knocked out by a makeshift Manchester United team. Having won the first leg clash at 2-0 Old Trafford three weeks ago with goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe.

It was generally thought that the second leg would be a walk in the park given the number of injuries affecting United.  former player Nicolas Anelka had alluded to this in an interview before the game when he backed PSG to lift the Champions League title this season.

United had 10 first team players out with injuries and Paul Pogba suspended after picking up a red card in the first leg. what makes us love the Champions League is the different thrills it brings.

The biggest competition in club football brings about the best teams regardless of how weak they are and United showed that on a rainy night in Paris. The Premier League giants rode their luck and took advantages of slack mistakes from the home team.

The First goal came from an unnecessary back pass from young defender Kehrer under pressure from Marcus Rashford. Romelu Lukaku pounced on the pass and refused to go down under the challenge of Thiago Silva and rounded Buffon to score.

The second goal came from an uncharacteristic error from veteran stopper Gigi Buffon who spilledRashford speculative effort and Lukaku was on hand to turn it in.

PSG had their chances with Bernat pulling a goal back and Di Maria fractionally offside when put through. Star prodigy Kylian Mbappe also missed a golden chance slipping at the vital moment when put through on goal.

With time running out DiogoDalot made a run from the midfield and attempted a shot which took a deflection of the arm of Kimpembe. VAR was called upon and the rest is history as Rashford scored the Penalty that sent United fans to delirium.
